A new brief from Rainforest Action Network has revealed which insurers are underwriting methane gas (LNG) expansion on the US Gulf Coast – risking devastating impacts on the climate and local communities.
The LNG expansion on the US Gulf Coast is one of the largest proposed build outs of fossil fuels of this generation. The infrastructure threatens to significantly expand global greenhouse gas emissions and further exacerbate environmental injustice in Southwest Louisiana.
If every project was developed, the operating and proposed methane export terminal projects would create annual emissions equivalent to 323 coal fired power plants, whilst also causing an estimed 77 premature deaths from exposure to pollution.
