Insurers Must Honor the COP28 Agreement

In response to the COP28 agreement to transition away from fossil fuels, Mary Sweeters, Senior Strategist with Insure Our Future, said:

“The agreement from nearly 200 countries at COP28 calling for a transition away from fossil fuels affirms what scientists have been saying for years: to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we cannot build new fossil fuel infrastructure. Insurers like AIG, Chubb, and Liberty Mutual, must take the first step to honor this agreement by ending coverage for oil and gas expansion that is harming public health, catalyzing extreme weather, and contributing to skyrocketing insurance rates. Insurers have a valuable role to play in securing a livable future but they must take urgent, tangible action.”
