Students

Students have targeted the recruitment efforts of fossil fuel companies and their financial backers on college campuses for several years. Now, financial institutions including insurance companies have become publicly associated with the polluting corporations that are driving climate change.

Students of all majors are good messengers to convey that this ongoing financial relationship presents a recruitment risk for insurers, especially the climate laggards in the United States. If insurance companies recruit on your campus, you’re in a position to show them – regardless of your major – that continuing business as usual with the fossil fuel industry will make them less appealing as future employers to you and your peers.

Insurance Majors

If you are studying risk management/insurance, actuarial science, or are otherwise planning to enter the insurance workforce and you want the industry to act seriously on climate change, you’re in a position to help make a difference.

The insurance industry is looking to fill critically-needed positions in the next few years and as a part of that future workforce, you and your peers can be powerful advocates for meaningful action from insurance companies and brokers. Please email mary@sunriseproject.org – all conversations are confidential.

All students, regardless of field of study, are invited to add your name to this petition pledging not to work for companies that are insuring the fossil fuel projects and companies that are driving the climate crisis.
