Chubb CEO Evan Greenberg: Get Serious on Climate Change

Chubb recognizes the reality of climate change and the substantial impact of human activity on our planet. Making the transition to a low-carbon economy involves planning and action by policymakers, investors, businesses and citizens alike.” – CEO Evan Greenberg

IT’S TIME FOR CHUBB TO WALK THE TALK

Chubb, the largest publicly-traded property and casualty insurance company in the world, was an early climate leader among U.S.-based insurers. In 2019 it was the first U.S. insurance company to adopt a policy to limit insurance for coal and CEO Evan Greenberg is one of few U.S. insurance executives who has been outspoken on the need for the industry to do its part on climate change. Greenberg said that Chubb’s coal policy reflected “Chubb’s commitment to do our part as a steward of the Earth.”

Thirty major insurers worldwide have adopted coal policies, most of them stronger than Chubb’s policy. Other insurers have also begun to limit or stop insuring the oil and gas industry, mostly around tar sands and Arctic oil drilling.
